Carnage is a gaming convention held annually in Vermont’s Upper Valley. It combines boardgames, card games, role-playing (LARP and tabletop), miniatures, computer games, and movies into one fun-filled weekend. Visit the official Carnage website.
Diplomacy is a premiere event at Carnage and is held in the resort’s “Steamboat Lounge” overlooking beautiful Lake Morey. There is plenty of space for diplomacy as well as a conveniently-located bar (see picture, right) and several televisions (so you don’t have to miss any Saturday college football action – or is that just me?).
There have historically been three rounds of Diplomacy at Carnage. Since 2009, the rounds have been at 7:00pm Friday, 9:00am Saturday, and 5:00pm Saturday. There is no Sunday round due to limited flight options out of Manchester on Sunday.
The scoring system and rules are subject to change. The current rules that the Carnage Diplomacy tournament can be found on the Carnage Accords Rules Page on the main nedip.org site. For your convenience, the current scoring system is as follows:
Effective 1 January 2010
Participation: All players who participate in a round receive 10 points that cannot be lost. Any player willing to play, but asked to stand down for a round will also receive 10 points.
Elimination: Eliminated players receive no bonus points.
Solo Victory: A Solo Victory receives 215 bonus points. No additional points are awarded to any other players.
Draws: Draws include all survivors. Bonus points are awarded on the following scale based on the number of supply centers controlled at the end of the Fall turn prior to the draw being called:
1st: 70 points
2nd: 60 points
3rd: 50 points
4th: 40 points
5th: 30 points
6th: 20 points
7th: 10 points
In the event of a tie, an average of tied ranks is used. For example, on a 17-5-5-5-2 board, the 17-center player would receive 70 bonus points, each of the 5-center players would receive 50 bonus points ( ( 60 + 50 + 40 ) / 3 ), and the 2-center player would receive 30 bonus points.
Supply Centers: 0.01 points will be awarded for each supply center controlled at the end of the game.
